Parks, Recreation and Culture
Within the Discovery District and surrounding it are plentiful opportunities to relax, exercise and enjoy the areas preserved natural areas.
Community Parks
Throughout the Discovery District are many regional and neighborhood parks, including Calvert Road Disc Golf Park, Riverdale Community Park, Calvert Park and the Paint Branch Stream Valley Park.

UMD Arboretum and Botanical Garden
Did you know that UMD is an arboretum? Originally established as the Maryland Agricultural College (MAC) in 1856, UMD’s 1,300 acre campus is a Level 4 Accredited Arboretum.
A robust network of trails, including the Northwest Branch Trail, Paint Branch Trail and Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail, connect the Discovery District to local destinations, as well as to direct, on-trail paths into Montgomery County and the Navy Yard neighborhood of Washington, DC.
The Art Walk
A pocket park that serves as a food truck hub with creative seating and rotating art installations.
Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center
The Clarice is the home of scores of musical, theatrical and dance performances year round – from UMD students to internationally touring artists.
The College Park Airport also includes an on-site museum that chronicles the history and many firsts that took place at the world’s oldest continually operating airport.
Discovery Park
A colorful, wi-fi enabled pocket park adjacent to WeWork and The Hall CP.

Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTTC)
A facility of 32 tennis courts and fitness center for tennis education, training and playing opportunities for all ages.
UMD has 20 NCAA Division I athletic teams competing in the B1G TEN conference that have won 31 national championships to date. You and your family are bound to have a fun-filled afternoon cheering on the Terps to victory.
